An object or group of objects left in a sacred place, an offering to a divinity generally with the intention of securing a favor or expressing gratitude or devotion. Votive deposits were often made at natural sites (cave, river, lake, or peat bog) and, unlike other types of hoard, was not intended to be recovered later.
