The site of an 11th-century church in Norway of one of the oldest stave churches in existence. Some of the staves are decorated with Viking ornament in the form of animals and zoomorphic ribbons; the term 'Urnes style' is derived from these decorations. This late Viking art style is a type of ornament that occurs a great deal on Scandinavian metalwork of that time and also on Swedish rune stones.
