Either of a pair of cylindrical mounting lugs or projections on the sides of a cannon or mortar, by which it is pivoted on its carriage. A trunnion is also one of a pair of laterally projecting knobs on a stone or metal blade (ax, chisel, etc.) to assist in its hafting.
