The 1st and 2nd Dynasties of Egypt, c 3100-2686 BC, named by the Egyptian historian Manetho (3rd century BC) for Thinis, a city near Abydos, where some of its kings were allegedly buried. Menes (c 3100-3040 BC) is considered the traditional founder of the dynasty.
