Russian archaeologist and ethnographer who became an expert on the peoples of Siberia and the Volga area. He excavated the frozen tombs at Pazyryk and wrote "Frozen Tombs of Siberia: The Pazyryk Burials of Iron Age Horsemen" (1970).
