A complex of Hindu and Buddhist temples on a plain near Yogyakarta, Java, built in the late 8th and 9th centuries AD. These stone monuments were built by the rulers of Mataram and include Loro Jonggrang, Candi Sewu, and Plaosan; their many inscriptions are a rich source of historical information.
