Preceramic cave site in Ayacucho basin of central highland Peru. At one time, it was believed to have the longest stratigraphy in the New World with remains 25,000 years old. These pre-Clovis phases have been largely discounted as having human occupation. A long preceramic occupation did begin c 9000 BC.
