Friezes kept in the British Museum, from the Temple of Apollo Epicurius, at Bassae near ancient Phigalia in Arcadia. There are 23 slabs in high relief, 11 representing the battle between the Centaurs and the Lapithae, and the rest the contest of the Greeks and Amazons. It is attributed to the same period as the Parthenon.
