A site west of Lake Natron, 50 miles (80 km) north of Olduvai in Tanzania, were an almost perfectly preserved fossil hominid jaw with a complete set of adult teeth was found. The specimen was assigned to Australopithecus boisei, c 1.5 million years old. The artifacts belonged to the Acheulian industry, including stone cleavers and hand axes.
