The site of an ancient town located northeast of the Karnak temple, at the northernmost edge of Thebes. It is dominated by a temple of the falcon-god Montu which dates back at least to the Middle Kingdom (2055-1650 BC), although the nucleus of the complex is of the 18th Dynasty (1550-1295 BC) and the outer sections are Greco-Roman in date (332 BC-395 AD).
