British geologist and one of the early excavators in Mesopotamia. He worked at Susa, Uruk, Ur, Larsa, Nineveh, Nimrud, and other sites in Mesopotamia. The main objective of the excavations was to collect antiquities, some of which were transported back to the British Museum.
