A type of image filter used in digital image processing to identify linear features that possess a particular orientation. It allows a data surface of any chosen vertical scale to be "illuminated" from various directions and elevations to make subtle anomalies visible mimicking the effects of low sunlight on earthworks with the flexibility of computer manipulation.
