A location at Thebes in Upper Egypt, the site of several temples, notably the funerary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, daughter of the Eighteenth Dynasty pharaoh Thutmosis I, who reigned over Egypt in her own right 1511-1480 bc. The temple includes a series of colonnaded terraces. Particular interest attaches to the fine relief carvings, one of which illustrates an Egyptian trading expedition to the Land of Punt, believed to have been part of the African coast near the southern end of the Red Sea.
