French archaeologist and author of monographs on Mont Beuvray (Bibracte) and decorated pottery vases of Roman Gaul and a four-volume manual of prehistoric archaeology (Manuel d'Archéologie Préhistorique, Celtique, et Gallo-romaine; 1908-1915) which greatly influenced protohistoric studies in France.
