A term used in Wales for any Megalithic tomb. In Britain, the term refers to a circle of upright stone of prehistoric times. The enclosure was formed by menhirs, huge stones planted in the ground in a circle or semicircle. These enclosures were consecrated places used as burial grounds. The former usage is now obsolete in archaeological literature but has persisted in Welsh folk usage.

Welsh term applied to all Megalithic tombs, sometimes used in France to apply to stone circles as well. The term is no longer used by archaeologists, but persists in popular usage in Wales.
