The interface of surfaces between two successive stratigraphic levels, either vertical or horizontal. Various geological criteria are used to distinguish between two contact types: conformable and unconformable. Conformable contacts are deposit conditions not significantly different or interrupted from an adjacent unit. Unconformable contacts are surfaces of no deposit or erosion in an adjacent unit.
