A methodological alternative to traditional normative archaeology, developed by Walter W. Taylor in 1948. In it, the full range of a culture system is to be taken into consideration in explanatory models, with explicit connection of archaeological objects within their cultural contexts. Ancient behavior is reconstructed by defining functional sets of archaeological data.
