Lakeside settlement site of the Neolithic Cortaillod culture in Switzerland, dated to the mid-4th millennium BC. Like other Cortaillod sites, Burgaschi-See Sud has excellent preservation of organic remains. Unlike other sites of the period the fauna consisted of 90 per cent wild species, of which the most important were red deer, roe deer, aurochs and wild boar. Domesticated cattle, sheep, goat and pig were kept, but clearly most meat food was obtained from hunting. Among the artefactual material was a number of copper beads, probably imported from eastern Europe.
