A Buddhist site in western Deccan, India. In the 2nd and 1st centuries bc, stupas and rock-cut temples and monasteries were excavated and decorated with sculpture in relief. The early 2nd-century BC vihara [monastery] has decoration which figures Vedic deities, appearing here as sy.abols of the Buddha who has assimilated their powers.
