Late Neolithic enclosure in Charente, France, a settlement with concentric rock-cut ditches and the type site of the Peu-Richardien culture of western France. The pottery is ornamented by incised channeled decoration or narrow appliqué cordons, with some use of the tunnel handle, and including oculi or double-eye motifs. Peu Richard ware is dated c 3500-2800 BC and occurs in megalithic tombs of dolmen and passage grave types. Settlements were generally on hilltops and, like the type site, surrounded by ditches.
