Intihuasi Cave

An Argentinian site with long occupation and clear chronological continuity and similar to the Desert Tradition. Its lowest level, dated to c 6000 BC, contains willow-leaf points and other hunting tools in association with manos, milling stones, and ground-stone ornaments. Other levels contain medium-sized triangular points, bone projectile points, and a ceramic level (c 750 AD).

Located in northwest Argentina, its lowest level (Intihuasi IV) contains willow-leaf points (see also Guitarrero, Ayampitin and Lauricocha) and other hunting tools in association with manos, milling stones and ground stone ornaments. This level is dated, by radiocarbon assay, to c6000 be. Subsequent levels contain medium-sized triangular points (Intihuasi III), bone projectile points (Intihuasi II) and a ceramic level (Intihuasi I) with an estimated date of ad 750.
