Perhaps the most important of the central European mammoth-hunters camps of the Upper Palaeolithic. Like Pavlov, it is situated on the loess plains of southern Moravia. The main occupation level dates from the end of an interstadial period when climate was less intensively cold, about 26000 be on the radiocarbon time-scale, although the thermoluminescence dates come out higher. The culture has been called Pavlovian or eastern Gr a veto an. A series of human remains has been found, including a female burial under a mammoth scapula. Several huts were excavated, and one seems to have had an oven inside, where clay figurines were fired. One of these is the famous venus of Dolni Vestonice (see venus figurines).
