The Greek structure for meetings of the city council (boule), a rectangular building, often with a D-shaped hall with a curved side with rows of seats. Athens' bouleterion was built c 500 BC and a Hellenistic example at Miletus dates to c 170 BC. It was the model for Roman Senate buildings (curia).

Council-house for the meetings of the Greek city council ( boule). Probably not originally distinctive in architecture, it seems to be one of a range of straightforward rectangular civic buildings. The internal space was probably undivided, except by a number of columns to hold up the roof structure, and seating would normally be provided. Archaic and Classical examples have been found at Athens, and a large elaborate Hellenistic example (cl70 bc) at Miletus.
