The site of two Nubian towns about 180 km south of Wadi Halfa, one east and one west of the Nile. Amara West was a walled colony founded by the Egyptians c 1295-1069 BC when much of Nubia was regarded as Egypt. Amara East has a temple dating to c 300 BC - 350 AD but few other remains.
